Without a doubt, one of the most surprising
presences at the previous alkantara festival was the piece
aKabi by Turkish choreographer Aydin Teker. The dancers
appeared on stage with heavy platform shoes of different
heights, transforming their bodies into hybrid forms. “When
I make a choreography, I always start by creating a problem”,
says Aydin Teker. “Then I spend the rest of my time trying
to resolve it”.
harS is a duet between a dancer and a harp.
In her customary attitude of investigator, Aydin Teker
ignores all the rules about the handling of the instrument
and its strong historical and musical connotations. She
looks at the harp as an object. During 50 minutes, the
dancer Ayşe Orhon interacts with this inanimate body, in
an exercise of great rigor and density. Executed at the
limit of equilibrium, harS is an inexhaustible source of
poetic images and a piece of rare sculptural beauty. The
piece does not create narratives; meaning emerges in the
eye of the beholder.
